Southampton Salon Raises Thousands
for Children with Cancer
Just a year ago, she was bald from chemotherapy, but on this day,
four year old Felicia Frugoli not only neared her one year
anniversary being cancer-free, she also sat atop a booster seat in a
salon chair, having her beautiful, brown, curly locks of hair
braided. Felicia is one of many children supported by Kisses for
Kyle, a non-profit that provides families of children diagnosed with
cancer with much-needed financial help. She and her family recently
attended the Salon Rage Cut-a-Thon and Family Fun Day, an event
designed to raise awareness and funds for Kisses for Kyle.
Salon Rage, located at 606 Second Street Pike in Southampton, held
the first annual event on August 16th. Stylists donated their time
to cut, blow dry and style hair, give mini-pedicures and manicures,
provide face painting, chair massages and waxing - all for about
half of the salon’s regular pricing. All proceeds benefited Kisses
for Kyle, the same organization that supported Felicia Frugoli’s
family when she was diagnosed with cancer. Felicia celebrates one
year being cancer free on August 20th, less than a month before
turning five years old. Her birthday is on September 13th. After
having her right kidney removed, losing a third of her left kidney,
undergoing eight months of chemo and eleven rounds of radiation,
this little girl’s family was happy to support the Salon Rage
event.
Salon Rage owner, Donna Straff says little Felicia is living proof
of just how important this group is.
“To look at that little girl in that chair, having her hair braided
and knowing what she was going through this time last year, it just
shows how important this foundation is to these families. The salon
has had over 28 babies born to the team in the last ten years. I
can’t imagine the heartache and financial burdens these parents face
daily,”
said Straff. She went on to say, “Everyone at Salon Rage felt
compelled to bring the community together for this one day, not only
to raise money for this wonderful foundation, but also to celebrate
togetherness with their loved ones.”
The event raised over $3,000 for the Kisses for Kyle Foundation,
which is named for Kyle Snyder, who was diagnosed with Acute
Lymphoblastic Leukemia just before his second birthday. Kyle lost
his battle to Leukemia on October 15th, 1998 at just two years and
seven months of age. Kyle’s family began the Kisses for Kyle
Foundation to assist
families of children diagnosed with cancer in Southeastern
Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The foundation covers
expenses families struggle with during the course of their
children’s illness. Many of the requests fulfilled are often to
help cover the cost of rent or mortgage payments, gas, electric and
oil bills, transportation and telephone services. The foundation
also helps with funeral costs and other financial struggles. It is
the mission of Kisses for Kyle to alleviate any added stress and to
give families of children diagnosed with cancer some peace of mind.
